(September 21, 2008) South Florida Elite’s U14 Boys defeated Florida State Cup Champions West Pines United 7-0 to win the Inaugural US Club Florida Cup. The Florida Cup is US Club Soccer’s state cup competition. SFE’s attacking midfielder Danny Autrey struck early to spot SFE a 1-0 lead. The Florida State Cup Champions never recovered. SFE held a 4-0 lead at halftime and added 3 more in the second half. SFE opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Kendall Soccer Coalition and tied Weston 1-1 in one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament. SFE then mercy-ruled Boca United Gold 8-0 for the right to meet West Pines in the finals. "Our boys are playing more skillful soccer with every game," added head coach Jorge Alvarez. "We are honored to be the first U14 champions for US Club’s Florida Cup. It was a fantastic tournament."
SFE’s U11 boys also had a strong tournament. After breezing through the preliminary round, our boys played Pinecrest in the final on a humid Sunday afternoon. SFE had defeated Pinecrest 4-1 in the early round. The final was a much tougher match. Our boys left everything on the field, but lost to Pinecrest 1-0. Coach Christian Block remarked, "Despite the loss, our players are continuing to improve. We are pleased with our their technical display. We extend our congratulations to Pinecrest."
